Kind of a cheat!! This was actually shot yesterday. I've been working in the yard all day and I'm beat. The sunset was pretty last night. This was taken from my friends backyard.

Regarding smoke photography, it needs to be in pitch blackness (or very close to it) because your shutter speed is really long. Any kind of light in front of your camera besides the side-flash going through the smoke will ruin your perfectly black background, and make your smoke photo very difficult to work with.
